Nilekani was CEO of Infosys from 2002 to 2007 for five years. In 2009, he left Infosys to take charge at Unique Identification Authority of India to spearhead the launch of Aadhaar project. In his new role at Infosys, Nilekani will assume and deliver the responsibilities of executive vice-chairman and help Infosys drive out of the current mess. Nilekani was born on June 2, 1955 in Bangalore, now Bengaluru, in Karnataka in a Konkani Brahmin community from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district. In 1978, he started his career at Mumbai-based Patni Computer Systems, where he first met N R Narayana Murthy. Murthy had interviewed Nilkeani for the job. (Photo: PTI)
