Guwahati: Highly decomposed bodies of nine unidentified persons, who were blindfolded with hands tied behind and shot from close range, have been found in a gorge in Dimapur district of Nagaland on Saturday.

Superintendent of police, Dimapur, V.Z. Angami said “We have found nine highly decomposed, bullet-ridden bodies from a drain in Pachaspura area. The bodies were in polythene bags.”

“The eyes of the victims were blindfolded with hands tied behind. The injuries indicated that they were shot from very close range,” he added indicating that the victims are not Naga.

Police said that the bodies were spotted by construction workers in a drain on Friday. The bodies have been sent for autopsy and postmortem.

Suspecting that it was a planned killing, police said that assailants who may have been involved had placed heavy boulders on the bodies to stop it from floating.

The possibility of those killed being immigrant workers is not being ruled out. Meanwhile, police has also contacted its counterpart in Assam seeking help in identification of bodies.

The doctors carrying out autopsy claimed that they might have been killed about two weeks ago. Security sources said that they are also probing the incident, which looks like a planned massacre.
