Bangalore: Soon after deciding to merge with the BJP, former Chief Minister and KJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa submitted a memorandum to Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa on Friday confirming the merger.

Yeddyurappa has submitted  resolutions taken by the KJP executive  and legislative party regarding the merger. However, of the six KJP legislators, only four have signed the resolution for merger with B.R. Patil and Guru Patil yet to append their signatures.

The MLAs favouring merger are Yeddyurappa himself , Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, U.B. Banakar and Vishwanath Patil. According to the tenth schedule of the Constitution, the consent of two third of  party MLAs is necessary to avoid the provisions of the anti-defection law which Yeddyurappa claims he has.

The Speaker said that he will take decision only after hearing BJP leaders. Source said BJP floor leader in the assembly Jagadish Shettar will meet Kagodu Thimmappa on Saturday and request him to to consider the four KJP members as BJP members.

“Four MLAs are in favour of merger, another MLA Guru Patil will join us in a day or two”, Yeddyurappa said. The former Chief Minister will accept the BJP’s membership on Monday by visiting the party office along with his supporters, sources close to him said.
