Romith scalps seven for HPS

Hyderabad: Romith’s 7 for 39 ended in vain as Hyderabad Public School ‘B’ lost to XI Masters in a lower division cricket match in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Though Romith did his best to defend the total of 171 with some superb bowling, Masters found enough fuel to win the match by two wickets.

Brief Scores: HPS B 171 (Anirudh Yadav 96, Dinesh 3/39) lost to XI Masters 173/8 (Srikar 53, Romith 7/39)

Inter-club T20 set to begin

The Secunderabad Club will be organising the 11th edition of the inter-club T20 cricket tournament from Saturday at the Club ground.

The championship, which was started in 2002, will have eight clubs from the Twin Cities — Secunderabad Club, Deccan Club, Press Club, Zoroastrian Club, Jubilee Hills International Centre, New Club and Nizam CLub — vying for the top honours.

The hosts Secunderabad Club have been the most successful team at the tournament since its inception, winning the title five times. Fellow Secunderabad-based club, Deccan Club, have bagged the trophy thrice.

Only Nizam Club have been successful in taking the trophy out of Secunderabad, outplaying their rivals twice.

The tournament would be played on a league-cum-knockout basis, with the teams being classified into two groups in the initial stages. The top four of each group will slug it out at the knockout stage. All matches will be held at weekends, with the final scheduled to be held on February 9 (Sunday).

State boys clinch silver in TT

Andhra Pradesh clinched  the silver medal in under-17 category of the 59th National School Table Tennis Championships being held in Aurangabad in Maharashtra.

AP boys, led by V.S. Hari Krishna, lost to Delhi 0-3 in the final to settle for the second spot. Earlier in the semifinals, the AP paddlers outsmarted Tamil Nadu 3-2. AP’s Achanta Jagadish Krishna displayed tremendous composure to win the decider with a narrow margin.

The other members of the team are Pavan Kumar and Aditya S. Rao.

Results: Final: Delhi beat Andhra Pradesh 3-0 (Pavan Kumar lost to Shiven Banga 2-3, V.S. Hari Krishna lost to Ajai 0-3, Jagadish Krishna lost to Keshav 0-3). Semifinal: Andhra Pradesh beat Tamil Nadu 3-2 (Jagadish Krishna lost to Santosh 1-3, V.S. Hari Krishna bt Vishal 3-1, Pavan Kumar bt Surya 3-0, V.S. Hari Krishna lost to Santosh 0-3, Jagadish Krishna bt Vishal 3-2)

Mounika to captain OU in cricket

P. Mounika of OU will captain the Osmania University women’s cricket team for the Central Zone Inter-University Cricket Championship to be held at Kakatiya University, Warangal, the Board of Control of OU Inter University Tournament said in a press release.

Ananya Upendran of St Francis College has been named Mounika’s deputy at the tournament. Sardar Patel College’s R. Harinarayana Rao is the coach.

Sachdev inter-school football from friday

The Shastry Soccer Club is organising the 10th Sachdev Inter-school Football Tournament at the Trimulgherry Village Ground, Secunderabad, from Friday.  Only those under Class XI are eligible for the tournament, which will be played in a knockout format. There is no entry fee.
