Hyderabad: Second marriages are on the rise in the city. And, what’s more, they are proving to be more successful than first marriages.

Welfare organisations and matrimonial agencies that bring together people desirous of marrying for a second time say the success rate of second marriages is amazingly high.

Zahed Faruqui of Siasatmatri.com, a matrimonial bureau based in the city and run by the Urdu daily Siasat as part of its welfare activity, says, “Of the total marriage applications we receive, more than 25 per cent are second marriage profiles.”

Zaheerudin Ali Khan, managing editor, Siasat,  said, “Looking at the increasing number of second marriage profiles, we conduct separate Ru Ba Ru (person to person interaction) programmes. Here, parents or guardians of the bride and groom can directly interact.”

There are counselling centres for the brides and grooms to help them choose the right. Satya Naresh, the founder of a matrimonial portal, idontwantdowry.com, says, “Of late, three out of every 10 members registered with our website is a second-time spouse.”

Experts say that about 45 per cent of first time marriages end up in divorce, while only 25 per cent of second marriages fall apart.

“Due to the experience gained from the first marriage, there is a better understanding and a desire to do it right the second time, and a sense of gratitude for getting a second chance at love,” said Faruqi.

There are also widowers in their fifties, employed in the public sector, mention about the continuation of their pension to their new spouses.
