Pro-T students pelt stones at police after they were stopped from taking out a rally.
Hyderabad: A group of pro-Telangana students today clashed with police in the Osmania University campus here after they were prevented from taking out a rally towards the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
The protesting students indulged in heavy stone pelting on the security forces who responded by firing tear gas shells to disperse them when police refused permission to them to proceed towards Assembly, police said.
"The pro-Telangana students hurled stones at police afterthey were stopped near the NCC Gate on the OU campus," OU Inspector P Ashok said.
The situation is now under control and is peaceful, he said. The students demanded that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill or Telangana Bill should be taken up for discussion in the ongoing session of the Assembly and also expressed their ire over divesting of Legislative Affairs portfolio held by state Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu.
The protesters wanted to lay siege to the Assembly as part of 'Chalo Assembly' programme. However, the police foiled their attempts.
