They met a group of forest rangers and wildlife wardens at an anti-poaching camp inside the 480-square-kilometer (185-square-mile) reserve, which is also home to other endangered species including swamp deer and the Hoolock gibbon.
A top Assam state government official, said the royal couple saw rhinos, wild boars, buffalos, hog deer and a variety of birds.

Prince William and Catherine were on Tuesday accorded a warm and traditional welcome as they arrived in Guwahati on a two-day trip here during which they will visit Kaziranga National Park, famed for its one-horned rhinoceros.

After Tendulkar's inaugural delivery, it was the turn of a school girl to bowl to the Duke of Cambridge. While he played that one, Prince William was caught on her second delivery.

Tendulkar, whose wife Anjali, too, was present at the Oval ground, also spoke of his conversation with the royal couple and his and William's passion for tennis.
At the Oval ground, the royal couple also interacted with representatives and children of three NGOs based in Mumbai, Magic Bus, Door Step School, and India's Childline.
After the cricket, William and Kate visited the ancient Banganga Tank.
The tank is a part of a temple complex and a hugely significant site in Hindu mythology, where makeshift homes sit beneath luxury skyscrapers in the plush Malabar Hill district.
They were given a warm welcome with garlands in a traditional way.
They then visited the waterfront.
William and Kate offered prayers.
The royal couple then proceeded to meet the children from the Mumbai slums.
There they interacted with the children. Later in the evening, the couple headed for a gala red carpet event to join Bollywood celebrities and industrialists.
They laid a wreath at the memorial and also spoke to the hotel staff who were present when the iconic hotel was attacked in November 2008.
William and Kate visited the 26/11 memorial at the Taj Palace Hotel.
The royal couple arrived in Mumbai on a seven-day tour of India and Bhutan, aimed at building up strong bonds with the two countries.
The event was to raise awareness and support for three charities working with some of India's most deprived youngsters.
Other highlights of their week-long trip include a visit to Kaziranga National Park in Assam state and a two-day spell in Bhutan.
The event was also attended by leading lights from the Indian business community.

In the evening they schmoozed with Bollywood film stars at a glittering red-carpet event at the luxury Taj Mahal Palace hotel.
While Prince William donned a stylish look, Kate wore a glittering blue gown by one of her favourite British brands Jenny Packham.
