Eliminate safe havens for economic offenders: Modi tells G20

Modi said fighting corruption, black money and tax-evasion were central to effective financial governance.

The two-day G20 summit will focus on issues like global economic slowdown, raising protectionism, global trade and creation of jobs.
India will engage constructively on all the issues before us and work towards finding solutions and taking forward the agenda for a robust, inclusive and sustainable international economic order that uplifts the socio-economic conditions of people across the world, Modi said.
The Prime Minister also said that India needs energy to support its development. A balanced mix of nuclear, renewal energy and fossil fuels is at the core of our policy, Modi said.
Modi also called on French President Francois Hollande. Modi said that a stable global economic and financial system is imperative for growth as it promotes inclusive and sustainable growth.
In his intervention on the second day of the G20 Summit in this east Chinese city, Modi said fighting corruption, black money and tax-evasion were central to effective financial governance.
Narendra Modi met British PM Theresa May on the sidelines of G20 Summit in Hangzhou in China. Modi made it clear that effective financial governance requires full commitment to act against the corrupt and elimination of safe havens for economic offenders as he called on G20 members to break down the web of excessive banking secrecy.
The meeting between Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping came in the backdrop of contentious issues including listing of Pakistan-based terrorist organisations in the UN, China stalling India's membership at the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and USD 46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flew into Hangzhou for the crucial G20 summit and talks with top world leaders, including one with Chinese President Xi Jinping on irritants in bilateral ties like India's NSG bid and the CPEC, which runs through PoK.
Modi, who reached in Hangzhou after a two-day maiden visit to Hanoi, begins his programme on Sunday morning by holding talks with Xi, in their second meeting in less than three months.
The four other leaders who participated in the meeting of the five-member bloc included Brazilian President Michel Temer, Chinese President Xi Jinping - with whom Modi held bilateral talks earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and South African President Jacob Zuma.
Modi said that as chair of BRICS, Building Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions' is the theme we have chosen which mirrors central priorities at G20 Summit'.
Leading from the chair, Modi addressed the BRICS Leaders Meeting here, before the 8th annual Summit in Goa from October 15-16.
Describing BRICS as 'an influential voice in international discourse', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said it was the grouping's shared responsibility to shape the global agenda.
