Hyderabad: The Secunderabad government railway police here on Wednesday detained a goldsmith for allegedly possessing a bag containing gold ornaments worth over Rs.18.20 lakh.

Kousik Santra, 30, was moving suspiciously on the Foot-Over-Bridge (FoB) on platform number two when the police detained him. After checking his bag, the police found gold ornaments weighing 260 grams.

Kousik, a resident of Chelapur in Chaar Kaman near Charminar, was carrying gold ornaments from Secunderabad to Guntur by Lingampally to Vijayawada Intercity express but he did possess any valid documents. He also failed to give appropriate answers about ornaments.

The police later handed over the seized ornaments to State Tax department for appropriate action. The railway police intensified checking at Secunderabad and its surroundings as Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was in vogue in view of Lok Sabha elections.
