Kanika Saini’s New Novel ‘The Mumbai Monsoon’ Is An Ode To Mumbai’s Undying Spirit!
The story revolves around three women from different socio-economic backgrounds
From the author of ‘The Day I Met Him: Not A Love Story’ comes another jewel with a completely different and refreshing backdrop. The Mumbai Monsoon by Kanika Saini is a complete world in itself, taking the readers on a roller coaster ride of emotions traveling all the way from Dil Walo ki Dilli to Mumbai – the city of dreams.
The story revolves around three women from different socio-economic backgrounds. One is Ruby, a young, vibrant live wire who wishes to break away from the shackles of prostitution this unruly world has put her in. Despite her traumatizing past, she has the energy to take on the world, all by herself. The other protagonist is Simi- the Punjabi girl next door. Simi is as simple as her name, with desires of a happily ever after married life. However, life hits her hard when things take an unexpected turn, and she finds herself at a point of no return. And then the last one is Ayesha, a successful actress with an equally unsuccessful personal life. She is the Bollywood heartthrob, having everything except happiness.
They all are up against issues very different yet similar at the core. And when the Mumbai monsoons get them together, life happens. The author has put in magnificent effort bringing these characters to life. The writing is such that each event from the story, from sipping a cup of coffee to the closing of doors, can be pictured right in front. The ease with which the author has addressed some burning issues of prostitution, mental and physical abuse, makes this book a masterpiece and a relevant read this year.
In a true sense, this book is an ode to Mumbai city as well as an ode to womanhood. ‘The Mumbai Monsoon’ is now available on Amazon and Flipkart. The book’s author, Kanika Saini works as a senior journalist at a leading entertainment portal in Mumbai. This is her second book after ‘The Day I Met Him’ that was released in 2020.
