AICTE clarifies on recruitment of ME graduates for teaching jobs
AICTE also gave a green signal for candidates who acquired Ph.D directly after completing BE or B.Tech.
Chennai: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given a clarification restricting technical institutions from taking candidates who have finished ME or M.Tech or Ph.D in Computer Science/IT after acquiring MCA, M.Sc. Maths, Physics, Electronics, Computer Science and allied subjects, for teaching jobs.
However, existing incumbents recruited as a faculty with these basic minimum qualifications prior to the issue of AICTE Regulations, 2010, are to be considered for Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), subject to the fulfillment of other eligibility criteria, the council clarified.
Many lecturers and assistant professors with similar qualifications are currently being recruited in technical institutions, including Anna University.
By this clarification, assistant professors and lecturers who are currently employed will not get affected, Anna University registrar S. Ganesan told DC.
There are many faculty members with the same qualification who are working at the university and private institutions. While this notification eventually put an end to their recruitment in technical institutions, it will not affect serving faculties’ career, he said.
If AICTE thinks that only those candidates with ME after completing BE are qualified to teach in technical institutions, then they should not allow MCA graduates to pursue ME course. If they allowed them to study ME, then they should also allow them to teach, professors argued.
AICTE also gave a green signal for candidates who acquired Ph.D directly after completing BE or B.Tech. They are also eligible for appointment, provided the Ph.D. degree were awarded as per UGC norms or awarded by IITs, IISC, NITs.
MS degree from institutes of national importance such as NIT, IIT and IISC shall be considered equivalent to ME or M.Tech. for all purposes, the council has said.
