Andhra Pradesh MP held at Chennai airport
P. Venkat Mithun Reddy was held in connection with an alleged assault on the Air India manager at Renigunta.
Chennai: YSR Congress MP P. Venkat Mithun Reddy was arrested and whisked away by an Andhra Pradesh police team when he arrived in Chennai airport from Bangkok early on Sunday morning.
He was held in connection with an alleged assault on the Air India manager at Renigunta in November 2015.
Airport sources said the Rajampet MP arrived on a Thai Airways flight at 1.30 am. His name figured in the lookout circular of the immigration dept and he was detained and handed over to plainclothes policemen who were waiting for him.
“The AP police team whisked him away at around 4.15 am,” airport sources said. The sleuths seemed to have had prior information and a team was waiting outside the airport for his arrival.
The MP and members of his family had manhandled, slapped and assaulted the Air India station manager K. Rajasekhar on November 26, 2015 at the Renigunta Airport in Chitoor district after AI staff had refused them boarding passes.
Boarding for the New Delhi-bound flight they were supposed to catch had already closed.
A case was registered in Yerapad police station under crime number 98/15 under sections of trespassing, voluntarily causing hurt beside assaulting public servant and deterring him from discharging his duties.
