New Delhi: The procurement price of LED bulbs has fallen further by 10 per cent under a government Domestic Efficient Lighting programme (DELP) which could make the energy-efficient lighting more affordable.

The procurement price has come down to Rs 64.41 (exclusive of taxes) from existing Rs 73 of 9W LED bulbs, while their efficiency has increased by 20 per cent, said power ministry on Sunday.

This is 80 per cent reduction from February, 2014 price of Rs 310. The target of the programme is to replace all the 77 crore incandescent bulbs sold in India by LEDs. This will result in reduction of 20,000 MW load, energy savings of 100 billion kWh and green house gas emissions savings of 80 million tonnes every year. The annual saving in electricity bill will be Rs 40,000 crore.
