Hosapete: The installation of five stoplogs to replace the washed-away Spillway Gate No. 19 at the Tungabhadra Reservoir was successfully completed on Saturday evening, just a week after the gate was lost on the night of August 10.
The stoplogs, crucial for regulating the water flow, were installed under the expert supervision of Retired Engineer and Dam Gate Construction and Safety Expert Kannayya Naidu. The swift and precise work was lauded by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who expressed his gratitude to Naidu and the team of engineers, officers, staff, and workers who worked tirelessly to complete the task.
In a statement, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the state’s farmers and personally to Dam Gate Construction and Safety Expert, Retired Engineer Kannayya Naidu, who provided on-site guidance, and to all the engineers, officers, staff, and workers who tirelessly undertook this challenging task.”
The Chief Minister further noted that despite the heavy outflow of water, the team successfully installed the stoplogs, alleviating the anxiety of farmers who depend on the Tungabhadra Reservoir for cultivating two crops. “Those who rely on the Tungabhadra Reservoir for cultivating two crops can now proceed with their agricultural activities without concern,” he added.
Siddaramaiah had visited the dam on August 13 to inspect the situation and assured full support for the installation of the temporary gate. The work commenced on August 14 and was completed on August 17, as promised by the experts. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction that the swift action had averted a potentially major crisis for the farmers.
