Hyderabad: For the first time in the Telugu states, JNTU has introduced dual degree course, to facilitate students do B.Tech along with BBA. The university would issue a notification for admission to the BBA (Data Analytics) course next week.

As several companies prefer inducting youth with additional skills for IT jobs and others, students will have better recruitment opportunities if they can complete both the engineering and administration courses simultaneously. They can also get good packages, the university officials said.

In April this year, the UGC issued guidelines for pursuing dual degree courses. In tune with the change, JNTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Katta Narasimha Reddy held discussion with the faculty members and introduced the dual degree course from this academic year itself.

The syllabus for the BBA-Data Analytics course has been chalked out and it would be taught online for five days in a week. Offline classes will be held for one day every week. All students pursuing various courses in colleges and other institutions affiliated to JNTU can join in the BBA course.

Students pursuing first, second and third year B.Tech are eligible for entry into the BBA course. Those in the first and second year B. Tech course can complete BBA (Data Analytics) even before the completion of the engineering course. Students studying third year B.Tech should invest one year more to complete the BBA course, after they get the B.Tech degree.

The UGC policy with regard to dual degree courses enables students to shift the credits of one subject of a course to the other. For example, a student completes studying one subject of the BBA course in the first year B.Tech itself. Then the student need not pursue that specific subject in the BBA course as he/she had already completed it during the engineering course. The credits given in the engineering course will automatically be shifted to the BBA course.

Students completing two degrees at the same time will have an edge over others during the campus placement drive. They will have additional credits. There will be no wastage of time too as they can save an additional 3 years. There are plans to offer more subjects in the BBA course from next year, said the officials.
