80% of Indian students in US are Telugus, says Rowan Univ VP

Hyderabad: About 80 per cent of Indian students studying in the United States are from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, said Darren Wagner, senior VP of Rowan University.

Wagner, who paid a visit to the Indo Global Studies office in Gachibowli, said, "Currently, 80% of Indian students are pursuing graduation and 20% are pursuing undergrad. Around 78 per cent students are going to take up STEM programmes. Hyderabad is one of the largest markets in India, particularly for students considering studying in the United States."

While interacting with students and meeting company executives, he spoke about trends in the education abroad space and how Covid-19 pandemic influenced a dramatic shift in career preferences, particularly for Indian students.

After a two-year lull, there is now a surge in enrolment. Overseas education has increased by 80% and has reached pre-Covid levels. According to him, Canada and the United States are currently the world's largest markets for international education. He added that there had been an 18.9 per cent increase from India year-over-year, with 1,99,182 Indian students currently studying in the United States.
