Adikavi Nannayya University to set up Kandukuri Kala Peetham
The 175th Kandukuri birth anniversary celebrations were held jointly by Charitable Brahma Samaj Trust
KAKINADA: Adikavi Nannayya University Vice Chancellor Dr Mokka Jagannadha Rao said on Tuesday that a Kandukuri Peetham would be set up in the university to propagate the ideas of the great social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam.
The 175th Kandukuri birth anniversary celebrations were held jointly by Charitable Brahma Samaj Trust and others at the university campus on Tuesday.
Jagannadha Rao said Rs 5 lakh would be granted to the university as an initial fund to set up the Peetham and another Rs 5 lakh would be collected from donors. The Peetham would encourage research on the life and ideals of Kandukuri Veeresalingam whose social reform liberated women and gave a new lease of life to widows, he said.
He said Veeresalingam encouraged women to go for education and the university was also encouraging women in employment.
Jagannadha Rao unveiled a book Kandukuri@175, written by Chennapuri Telugu Academy Managing Trustee Dr Tumati Sanjeeva Rao. Datladevadanam Raju, the University OSD to Vice Chancellor S Teki, Principal Dr K Ramaneswari and others were present.
