Aditya Birla trust launches ‘Mpower’ at BITS Pilani
With endless assignments, online classes and fear of missing out, the last two years added a lot of additional stress to students
HYDERABAD: The Aditya Birla Education Trust launched Mpower-Cell on the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus on Friday, enabling students to seek help regarding mental health issues by attending therapy sessions offline or offline.
Mpower’s efforts in bringing awareness on the importance of mental health made an impact over fostering education, alleviating stigma and providing holistic multidisciplinary mental healthcare.
Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown also affected the mental health of people from all walks of life, especially students. With endless assignments, online classes and fear of missing out, the last two years added a lot of additional stress to students. There are reports of rising suicides amongst students, too.
The BITS curriculum has now added guidance on mental health, which would help students fight psychological battles. Speaking to this newspaper, Prof. G Sundar, director, BITS Pilani Hyderabad, said efforts were on to reduce assignment load and to include more of group assignments and build sociability.
As part of the partnership, e-mails are being circulated twice a month about mental health and how Mpower can help students who need it.
