TSPSC justifies extra time given to Group-I aspirants in Hyderabad
Instead, the test was delayed for a few candidates at three venues only because they had been given incorrect question papers
HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) has denied reports that extra time was unfairly given to candidates at a venue for the Group-I services preliminary examination held on October 16.
Instead, the test was delayed for a few candidates at three venues only because they had been given incorrect question papers, stated the commission adding that they had initiated action against the invigilators responsible.
In a release here on Thursday, the commission responded to reports in a section of the media that extra time was given to candidates at St. Francis De Sales High School, Secunderabad. It said that the hall superintendents, instead of distributing bilingual question papers had erred in the distribution to 47 candidates in three rooms at the centre.
The mistake was immediately noticed and rectified by distributing the correct question papers, but the candidates refused to take these papers under the apprehension that their answer sheets would be invalidated. After a prolonged discussion and counselling by various authorities, including the district collector, the candidates finally resumed writing at 1 pm and completed by 3.30 pm.
For similar reasons, two candidates at Stanley Engineering College centre were given an extra time of 15 minutes while five candidates were given 30 minutes extra. Around 15 were given seven minutes extra at Little Flower High School.
The TSPSC said no malpractices were detected in any of the venues in Hyderabad district.
