Five aspirants from Telugu states secure ranks in UPSC exam

Hyderabad: Five aspirants from the Telugu states have secured high ranks in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, the results of which were released on Friday night
The top ranker was Shubham Kumar, 24, an IIT-Bombay graduate who aced the exam in his third attempt. The second ranker, Jagrati Awasthi, is also an enginner.
A total of 761 candidates 545 men and 216 women have cleared the examination. The UPSC said that the top 25 candidates comprise 13 men and 12 women.
Topping the exam from Telangana is Dr P. Srija of Uppal. She qualified in her first attempt, and scored the 20th rank. She is an alumnus of Osmania Medical College with paediatrics, obstetrics and community medicine as her main subjects.
Dr Srija is a native of Warangal. Her father Shree Podishetty Srinivas is a private employee and her mother, Podishetty Latha works as a staff nurse in the medical field.
The other toppers were Narayana Sarma V.S. (33rd rank), Anisha Shrivastav (66), Shobhika Pathak (248), P. Gouthami (317), and Tirupathi Rao Ganta (441).
The UPSC said 10,40,060 candidates applied for the examination, of whom 4,82,770 appeared and 10,564 qualified for the written (main) examination. Of them, 2,053 candidates qualified for the personality test (interview), it said.
The 761 recommended candidates include 25 persons with benchmark disability — seven orthopedically handicapped, four visually challenged, 10 hearing impaired and four multiple disabilities.
Of the successful candidates, 263 are of general category, 86 from economic weaker section (EWS), 220 of Other Backward Class (OBC), 122 Scheduled Castes (SC) and 61 belong to Scheduled Tribes category.
