Surbhi made her acting debut in Kollywood with the Vikram Prabhu-starrer Ivan Vera Mathiri. Says the actress, who’s awaiting the release of political thriller Pugazh, “I managed to dabble in comedy with Ivan... but in Pugazh, I play a bold girl. The story unfolds in a town.”

Last seen on the big screen in the recently released Telugu comedy Express Raja, her next film is the Nani-starrer Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Katha. “As of now, I have my hands full in Telugu. But I actually miss being in Chennai. The place has its own charm and positive vibes. People were quite friendly on sets and treated me with respect. If I get interesting scripts, I’d love to do more films in Kollywood,” she smiles.

Is she comfortable with the language? “I write down the Tamil words in English and I have managed to come up with effective lip synching. I can relate to the language a lot better these days,” she tells us. Surabhi is sure that she doesn’t want to be typecast as an innocent girl. “I select my roles based on the scope for performance. Of late, films like Bajirao Mastani have interested me and I don’t mind even if I play a brief role in such films. I like the artistic flavour, grandeur and how those films are made. Some day, I’d like to play Jhansi Rani onscreen,” she says, surprising us.
