Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday denied interim anticipatory bail to retired CID additional SP Vijay Paul and directed the Nagarampalem police in Guntur district to file a counter affidavit.

A single-judge bench led by Justice VRK Krupa Sagar heard a case filed by TD MLA K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, who alleged custodial torture during interrogation by the CID police. The MLA requested that charges be filed against Vijay Paul, former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, and others. Accordingly, a case has been registered against them.

Senior advocate Siddarth Luthra, representing the AP Police, argued that anticipatory bail has never been granted in cases involving custodial torture. He emphasised that the investigation is ongoing and requires thorough examination.

Public prosecutor M. Lakshminarayana informed the court that no interlocutory petition had been filed for interim anticipatory bail and requested that no orders be issued at this stage.

After considering both sides, the court denied anticipatory bail to Vijay Paul and adjourned the case until August 20.
