GHMC polls: Vikram is Congress' mayor pick

Except the Congress, no other political party has yet named it candidate for the Hyderabad mayor's post.

Hyderabad: TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday announced Congress contestant for the Jambagh division M. Vikram Gowd as the party’s candidate for the mayor’s post.

Except the Congress, no other political party has yet named it candidate for the Hyderabad mayor’s post.

Speaking to newsmen at the Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said that party felt Vikram Goud, son of former minister Mukesh Goud, is the most suitable candidate for the mayor’s post since he is highly educated and young.

Meanwhile, senior MP and former PCC chief V. Hanumantha Rao has been appointed the party’s campaign committee chairman.

Former Union minister Sarve Satyanarayana, Khammam MP Renuka Chowdary, Nagarkurnool MP Nandi Yellaiah, Rajya Sabha member M.A. Khan, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, former ministers Sabita Indra Reddy and G. Prasada Kumar are part of the poll campaign committee.

The TPCC chief said that AICC leaders Digvijay Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad will be campaigning for the party on January 29 and 30 in various divisions.

Meanwhile, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy handed over the ‘B’ form to P. Sanjiva Reddy for the Narayankhed Assembly bypoll.
