Watch: Google pays tribute to Indian cartoonist Mario Miranda on his 90th birthday
Miranda was facilitated with India's highest civilian awards the Padma Shri in 1988 and the Padma Bhushan in 2002.
Google doodle celebrates the 90th birthday of renowned cartoonist Mario Miranda. He was born on 2nd May 1926 in Daman to Goan Catholic parents. Before his family converted to Roman Catholics, his surname was Sardessai.
Miranda’s mom saw his son’s interest in drawing and brought him a blank book which he called his ‘Dairy’. His early work presented vignettes of Goan village life for which he is still known for.

He didn’t have any formal degree for Art but worked with some reputed media houses in India. His popular books are A little World of Humor, Sketch book, Germany in Wintertime, Impression of Paris, Mario de Miranda and Goa with Love. His illustration book on the history of Goa made him one of the biggest proponent of illustration.
He passed away in December 2011 in his sleep in his his ancestral house in Loutolim – Goa.
He is also won many National and International honours. Miranda was facilitated with India’s highest civilian awards – the Padma Shri in 1988 and the Padma Bhushan in 2002.
