Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi: Mono act play by women today

T.A. Usha Kumari, Sajitha Madathil, Sreeja Arangottukara and veteran danseuse Kalamandalam Kshemavathi among others will take part.

Thrissur: The mono act play fest (Ekanka Natakam) by women organized by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi will begin in Thrissur on Tuesday. The inaugural event will be at the K T Muhammed Regional Theatre at 5.30 p.m. Well-known theatre and film artist KPAC Lalitha , who is also the chairperson of the Akademi, will preside over the inaugural function. Renowned activists and artists of women theatre like T.A. Usha Kumari, Sajitha Madathil, Sreeja Arangottukara and veteran danseuse Kalamandalam Kshemavathi among others will take part in the inaugural event.

The Hindi-English play ‘Notes on Chai’ by Jyoti Dogra will be the opening play at the four-day fest and will begin at 6 p.m. The second play at the fest will be ‘Ghorarakshasam’ written and directed by Surabhi and will be staged at 7.45 p.m. ‘Matsyagandhi ‘, the play penned and directed by Sagitha Madathil will also be part of the show. There will be other plays in other Indian languages at the fest. The fest intends to bring various shades of a women’s identity and issues related to marginalization of women in social life, the organizers said.
