Video: Hijab-style collection gets standing ovation at NY Fashion Week
Anniesa Hasibuan became the first hijabi designer at the event.
New York: The debate over hijab has been going on for quite sometime and while there has been sharp criticism from certain quarters, it has been seen that the attire has been accepted in the western world and designers are also exploring it.
This year, with a heated debate about the burkini ban in France raging on, the hijab has made it to the runway at the New York Fashion Week, as Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan became the first ever hijabi designer at the prestigious fashion event.
The 28-year-old showcased beautiful and innovative hijab designs which have also made it to the ramp at London in 2015 and she also participated in the NY Couture Fashion Week twice and won the Best Designer award once.
Not only was the show a path breaking one, but Hasibuan also got a standing ovation from the crowd for her colourful and intricate designs. She named her collection D’Jakarta, after the capital of Indonesia.
