Necessity is the mother of invention. And in the case of 21-year olds Sharjeel and Umair Abdullah, it was hunger that led to them launching their company — Iftar Move. Last year, during the month of Ramzan, Umair and Sharjeel were unable to break their fast with traditional food. They then realised that there must be plenty of other people who faced the same problem, so they decided to solve that,   through their startup that delivers Iftar food.

“When we came up with the idea last year, we were already 15 days into the month of Ramzan. We couldn’t do anything about it. So we shelved the idea, but this year in May we re-visited it,” explains Sharjeel. Sharjeel and Umair, along with their friends Adil and Ahmed Kareem Uddin, started working on the idea where one can order iftar food online for a price of Rs 199.

For the four students of Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology, things were easy at the college end because summer vacation had set in. Talking about how their families reacted to their idea, Umair says, “They were very supportive. Take for instance my mum, Anjum, or Adil’s sister, Sadia. Both of them made food for us to deliver. While my mum took care of the fruit chaat, Sadia made the paneer samosas and the chicken rolls. As the orders increased, we started outsourcing the food.”
