Doctors remove a record breaking 34 kg tumour from woman's ovaries
57-year-old Sonia Lopez from Costa Rica had been putting off an operation to remove a tumour from her ovaries for the past seven years.

57-year-old Sonia Lopez from Costa Rica had been putting off an operation to remove a tumour from her ovaries for the past seven years. But she was forced to go ahead when it grew to cover 80 percent of her abdomen and crushed her intestines.
When doctors finally performed the surgery, the removed a massive 34 kg tumour which even threatened to cause a heart attack. The woman set a world record with such a huge tumour and is now recovering as she awaits results that can tell if the growth is cancerous in nature.
The surgeon said that such large tumours are common among women as compared to men since their bodies are designed to carry more weight in the abdomen.
