Doctors remove 12 kgs of feces from constipated man
The build-up made him look nine months pregnant.
Doctors have removed 12 kgs of feces from a 22-year-old man’s bowels in China.
Surgeons had to remove 30 inches of the man's enlarged bowel, according to the Daily Mail. It is believed the man, who remains anonymous, had Hirschsprung's disease, which causes the bowels to swell when the nerves that are meant to control the gut are missing. The painful enlargement and feces backup left the man looking nine months pregnant.
Before the surgery, the patient used laxatives to help with the pain but it offered little relief. Medical experts believe he had been constipated for years. Tests showed that the build-up cause the immense swelling of his abdomen.
Inverse Science reported the procedure took three hours to remove the expanded body part. After the gut was removed, it was stitched to prohibit the feces from falling out.
Hirschsprung's disease is rarely diagnosed in adults as it mostly affects one in 5,000 babies. The condition is associated with specifici-inherited conditions like Down's syndrome, as well as other abnormalities that are present at birth, according to the Mayo Clinic. Some of the conditions of the symptoms are feeling gassy, throwing up green fluids, swollen stomach and diarrhoea.
