CM approves Divya's school meal proposal
I have been doing a lot of research on how the health and nutrition of underprivileged children of Tamil Nadu can be improved.
Divya Sathyaraj, daughter of ace actor Sathyaraj and a popular nutritionist who is the goodwill ambassador of Akshaya Patra -— the world’s largest mid day meal programme — had requested TN CM Edappadi Palanisamy to grant permission to extend the feeding scheme to government schools in Tamil Nadu. Divya has got the CM’s approval and she speaks to DC about her proposal.
“I have been doing a lot of research on how the health and nutrition of underprivileged children of Tamil Nadu can be improved. I spoke to a few children who study in government schools and their parents to understand their state of health and vitamin deficiencies. As a nutritionist I believe a child’s body needs nutrition and not just food,” Divya reveals.
She was offered to become part of Akshaya Patra. She says, “I wanted the children of TN also to benefit from Akshaya Patra meal programme. I prepared a breakfast programme that was balanced with all the nutrients and met Education Minister Sengottaiyan sir and gave him a few suggestions to improve nutrition in government schools of TN. He was very supportive and asked me to present a proposal to the CM. Accordingly, the people of Akshaya Patra had sent a proposal for the nutritious Ragi based breakfast programme and the CM has also approved the proposal. This will be effected from the next academic year.”
