Osmania Medical College Wins Qualifying Round of Sweden India Nobel Memorial Quiz

The winners will represent city at the National Finals in Delhi to compete for a weeklong trip to Sweden

Hyderabad: Osmania Medical College of Hyderabad won the Bengaluru qualifying round of intercollegiate Sweden India Nobel Memorial Quiz 2023, held in at R.V. College of Engineering, Bengaluru.

The winners, including Sayed Mohammad Hashmi, Hussain Ahmed and Sayed Abdul Mannan, did their institute proud by answering the wide array of questions on the Nobel prizes and Sweden and will now represent the city at the National Finals which will be held at New Delhi on October 31, 2023.  

Mr Alireza Javaheri, Counsellor, Political Affairs, Embassy of Sweden handed out the prizes to the winners which saw avid quizzers. Over 45 teams participated in the quiz from various reputed colleges and technical institutes of the city and from nearby areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Alireza Javaheri said, “2023 is a special year for us as we mark 75 years of Sweden India diplomatic relations.  The quiz is a great platform to celebrate the strong bond between Sweden and India. It is encouraging to see that the enthusiasm for the quiz remains high even though the quiz has returned after 5 years.”

The quiz competition qualifying rounds were earlier held in Pune, Mumbai and Chennai with the finals to be held in New Delhi.

The prize for National quiz champions is a weeklong trip to Sweden. The winners will get to visit the headquarters of some of the partnering companies, Swedish universities and the Nobel Museum. All participants of the quiz got the certificates and many of them also won exciting audience prizes.

Launched in 2008, this much awaited annual quiz has grown exponentially over the years and is a unique medium to test student’s knowledge on the Nobel Prize, Nobel Laureates and their achievements along with Sweden, its people, culture, Swedish innovations and inventions. Organized by the Embassy of Sweden in collaboration with leading Swedish companies in India and other partners as well as the Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai, it forms part of the Sweden India Nobel Memorial programme.

The quiz is open to all Indian students currently enrolled at a college/university in India. Students are required to form teams of three members, all from the same institution. The winning team from each city will qualify for the grand finale which will be held in New Delhi.
