Beach Hospital to launch B Care' in Malabar
B Care' will cater to the common man by exempting procedural expenses and providing medicines at government rates.
KOZHIKODE: In a bid to ensure infertility treatment at an affordable cost, Kozhikode Government General Hospital will launch its infertility clinic ‘B Care’ (Beach Center for Assisted Reproduction) this month, in association with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Calicut chapter. This will be the second government infertility clinic in Malabar. The first one was at Medical College hospital, Kozhikode. ‘B Care’ will cater to the common man by exempting procedural expenses and providing medicines at government rates.
At a press conference held in connection with the launch of the new initiative, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that it is a social responsibility to ensure such clinics at a time when the number of couples seeking treatment for infertility has increased. Infertility was very rare in the past. “But now it has become common medical disorder among the youth”, he said. Shobha Joseph, head of the department (Gynecology), Beach Hospital, said, “the intervention of ‘B Care’ will benefit the poorer sections by reducing treatment cost to more than half compared to the private sector”.
Facilities like 24-hour birth centre, family planning counseling, ‘Pap smear test’ to diagnose cervical cancer and Cryocautery method for treating cervical problems will be present at the clinic. JCI would look into the infrastructure facilities for the treatment whereas the health department would ensure expert treatment.
