Johnson T Samuel finally gets to donate his kidney
Came in contact Jayarajan through Kidney Foundation
KOZHIKODE: Johnson T. Samuel (50), a native of Thottumukkam, here, was in regular search for a deserving kidney patient for three years to donate his. Though he approached Kozhikode Medical College, he was discouraged saying only a relative of the patient can give. Meanwhile in Kannur, a young carpenter, Jayarajan, was struggling to make ends meet along with his dialysis and treatment to kidney ailments. Though doctors advised him for transplantation, he was delaying the process due to lack of money.
Thanks to Kidney Foundation headed by Fr Davis Chiramel, both these men met, and Mr Jayarajan is recuperating after a kidney transplant surgery at MIMS Hospital here. It took eight months of medical examinations, treatments and check-ups for Mr Johnson to donate his kidney to him. Eminent doctors Dr Krishna Mohan and Sajith Narayan monitored the transplant. Shobana, his wife, was sobbing when she voiced her gratitude to Mr Johnson when DC contacted her.
“We were struggling to get a donor, and he was on the verge of death,” she said. "The surgery was successful, and he talked to me. Johnson sir was the god in disguise, and I hope we were saved with his divine intervention.” During preparing for his surgery, Mr Johnson used to say that “One is saving a whole family while donating a kidney and it is more graceful if you are giving it to a poor man”. His family, consisting of the wife and a son was doubtful at first but supported his decision later.
