Several procedures are gaining popularity for men and women to enhance the way they look, and while a debate rages on about how useful such methods are, the effects they have on health have also been a concern. Breast implants have become a widely used way to enhance breast size, but how safe are these silicon additions?

It turns out that these implants can have severe effects on health which may potentially be fatal. The FDA has reported hundreds of cases of a rare cancer linked to the implants which has killed several people.

The cancer called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is caused by the surgery and it affects cells around the implants. It’s not a kind of breast cancer and is found in women who had issues like lumps and asymmetry with implants.

The cancer can be treated in many cases since the growth of tumours is slow, but it’s worrying since there are several incidents of death. The incision and delay in healing process is also found to cause infections.
