Kannur: Kannur University will soon launch a comprehensive project to identify students with better fitness to excel in sports and to promote them to bring laurels to the varsity. In all affiliated colleges of the University, the authorities will provide facilities to identify such students. The University will also issue directions to all affiliated colleges including self-financing colleges to appoint physical education instructors if not yet appointed. The University is also planning to launch a project which would allow reputed firms to sponsor the students of the varsity.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kannur University Vice Chancellor Dr M.K Abdul Khader said that he had asked the Sports Advisory Committee of the varsity to prepare a detailed project report to be submitted to the Syndicate for approval. “We need to have infrastructure and facilities to attract more students to the varsity for their sporting career. We need to provide maximum assistance to them including financial assistance, food and other facilities,” he said. “We will also find sponsors for students who have exemplary talent for further assistance because government aid may not be sufficient. Reputed and credible establishments will be allotted sponsorship and the students will carry their logo and name on the jersey,” he added.

The VC said that the University would also give a target to colleges to identify talented students in sports every year and bring them to the forefront. The colleges would also allot a quota to admit such students.
