KOZHIKODE: It has been an endless wait for hundreds of patients at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital to undergo Computed Technology (CT) scan and angiogram. In the present condition, a patient who takes an appointment is forced to wait another two months to get them done. In spite of the government sanctioning Rs 1 crore for installation of machines like MRI and CT scan and the angiogram equipment, the laxity on the part of the Hospital Development Committee resulted in the lapse of the money sanctioned.

The People’s Protection Forum has urged the hospital authorities and district administration to take steps to establish more scan centres or machines at the hospital and see to it that the scanning facility was available round-the-clock. On an average, nearly 100 patients register for various scanning tests here. The organisation pointed out that the people who visited the MCH were mostly from the economically weaker sections not able to afford treatment elsewhere.

A patient, no matter for what treatment he has come to the hospital, has to wait for at least two months to get an appointment for any of these tests. The scanning centre of MCH currently has a ten-year-old machine with no latest technologies and another machine was brought nearly six years before. They said the salary of the development committee members had been increased to Rs 600 from '300 at the cost of infrastructure development.
