Want to find a play date for your pet? City-based couple Sujata Kukreja and Akhil Nath are soon launching ‘PetsApp’, an app that will help you find a play date for your pet in your area. One of the co-founders of the app, Sujata talks to us about the reason behind starting an app and the salient features of the pan-India app, which will be launched next Friday, November 11.

Though the couple were toying with the idea of starting an app for pets, Sujata elaborates on the real reason for starting PetsApp — “It all started last year when we moved from a joint family home into an apartment. From a house full of people, six dogs, four rescued birds and a cat — to just us and our two dogs! Later, one of the dogs died because of old age. And our beagle, Mofie, became lonely. Naturally, we were on the lookout for a play date for Mofie in our neighbourhood. To our surprise, it wasn’t as simple as we thought it would be.

We had to look online, ask friends and even approach our vet before we found a suitable buddy for him,” shares Sujata, adding, “This long search inspired us to create a platform through which pet-owners could find a play date for their pets. That’s how the idea of creating an app came up.”

Rather than just finding a play date for your pet in your area, Sujata, a corporate lawyer and Akhil, an electronics and communications engineer, have included additional features to the app. “We have a chat-enabled adoption forum (no buying and selling is encouraged), lost and found option (with a GPS location tracker), pet book (which is more like a pet Instagram, were you can click, share and upload pictures of your pets and their daily antics!), information centre (articles, tips and news relating to pets) and a curated directory listing.”

Once it gets started, the couple plan to introduce an ‘ask your vet’ service, vaccination tracker, deals of the week on unique pet products and more after two months. So, whether you’re a seasoned pet owner, an animal enthusiast or just looking to bring home a furry friend, PetsApp will be your right companion.
