Many strays and cattle tragically fall victim to road accidents in the dead of the night because of speeding vehicles and inadequate street lighting. A Chennai-based NGO decided to put reflective collars on stray dogs and cattle so that they don’t get run over in the dark.

The People For Cattle in India (PFCI) had conducted a survey which they found that 90 per cent of vehicle owners couldn’t spot strays or even cattle on the road.

These special collars, which are termed ‘magic collars’, are made of a reflective cloth and are attached via a nylon tape. The PFCI collared more than 300 dogs and cattle last weekend.

These collars have also successfully been used in the past on strays in cities like Jamshedpur, Pune and Bengaluru, according to local reports.
