7 peacocks found dead near Kumbakonam
The villagers informed the Forest department officials, who came and checked whether poison-mixed rice are kept in other places in the village.
THANJAVUR: Seven peacocks were found dead at Umamaheswarapuram near Kumbakonam on Saturday, officials said.
The birds were seen on a ground near the paddy field of Vadivel of the village.
When people went and saw the birds, they found rice mixed with poison near them indicating that they might have died after consuming the poison-mixed rice.
The villagers informed the Forest department officials, who came and checked whether poison-mixed rice are kept in other places in the village.
They took the carcass of the birds and buried them. They are trying to find out who fed the birds with poison-mixed rice.
“Not only peacocks which prey upon paddy, pulses etc in this area, but also other birds, dogs, squirrels etc have also died in the recent past in the area,” said the people of the village.
