BENGALURU: While it is mandatory for vehicle owners to get 'Pollution Under Check' (PUC) certificates, only 15-20 per cent of the vehicle owners in the city bother to get emission checks done.

With an intention to create awareness among the public to get emission checks done, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), in association with the state transport and police department will jointly monitor the pollutants emitted from vehicles by introducing 12 monitoring vehicles fitted with sophisticated equipment for air quality monitoring.

Speaking to DC, Mr Lakshman, chairman, KSPCB, said, “In a drive  between June and July, we found most of the vehicles we checked did not comply with emission standards,” Mr Lakshman said.

“With the help of 12 monitoring vehicles we will slap fines on the vehicles which do not comply with the emission standards and create awareness among the vehicle users to get a PUC certificate,” he said.
