Let's not waste' any time
Today is World Earth Day and youngsters in the city are attending workshops related to environmental issues.
We are in the year 2018 and so much in need of changing the way we live to help sustain our environment. Today as the world celebrates ‘Earth Day’ and pays tribute to the Earth and the Mother Nature, Bengalureans take it to another level and celebrate Earth day full throttle with different workshops, flea markets and talks being held all over the city bringing all the environmentally conscious together!
Waste management is something we’ve said and heard of numerous times but what we often don’t realise is that small deeds can contribute towards the environment. This is exactly what this event ‘Magic of Waste Management’ is about. Nidhi Nahata, the founder of the Just Be Cafe where the event will be held says, “Sometimes we forget that small steps like not using a straw, or maybe just getting your own cup and using it wherever you go. This waste management class by Vani Murthy who is Bengaluru’s compost queen and an urban farmer is going to be talking just about that talking about different small steps we can take and yet make a huge difference. Her knowledge of backyard composting is held in high esteem and she will share it all with us on this Earth Day.”
While some take part in these kinds of activities once in a year but this group of volunteers from the city are always up for action whether it’s a waste collection drive or spreading awareness about living a more sustainable life. Devina Srivastava, a volunteer at the group talks about their event at the Art Village called ‘Let us breathe’ says, “We are hosting a flea market cum workshop at the art village this Sunday, which will include organic whole food, sustainable clothing and all day workshop on composting and talks by all the climate leaders. The best part about the event is that the money that each ticket is sold goes to 50 trees and their maintenance for three years. We are looking forward to selling as much as we can so that we can make our planet and our city greener.”
This year’s Earth Day theme around the city seems to be focusing on reducing plastic. So, many other events revolve around that says sociologist Pinky Chandran, “While the plastics have their uses, it’s time we sit up and take notice of the plastic pollution around us. Earth Day 2018 rightly calls attention to the cause.”
Singers are also raising awareness for this Earth’s day as Bengaluru also has the unique show called the Earth Live by Ricky Kej musical concert that is being held at VR Mall, Whitefield, Bengaluru on 22 April 2018. Where, the Grammy Award winner, Ricky Kej who is the goodwill ambassador for Save the Children’s global campaign is here to sing at Earth Live Musical Concert Festival for Environmental consciousness.
