Hyderabad: Indian Bison rescued from open well
The animal was rescued by the forest officials during early hours on Friday.
Hyderabad: Forest officials rescued an Indian Bison that fell into a dry open well at Penchikalpet on Friday. Two bisons had escaped from their shed from Geesugonda village on 21st February and attacked a farmer. After the incident, the animals were not located despite alerts being sent to all forest departments. On Thursday night, it was informed that a bison attacked a toddy tapper causing a fracture on his hand and then charged away, only to fall into a well.
The animal was rescued by the forest officials during early hours on Friday. The lower jaw bone of the bison is suspected to be injured. The weight of the animal was recorded at 1.5 tons. The other bison is yet to be located. The animal is listed as vulnerable since 1986 and is an important species of Eturnagaram wildlife sanctuary. The rescue operation was conducted by forest officials of Warangal, and veterinary doctors from Nehru Zoological Park and Kakatiya zoo.
