Doctors remove cigarette lighter from man's stomach
It is believed that the man swallowed the 8cm object while under the influence of drugs.
In a bizarre incident, doctors dragged a lighter out of a man’s stomach after her had swallowed it whole.
The unidentified man, arrived at a hospital in Yangzhou hospital in the Jiangshu province, east of China.
It is believed that he was under the influence of drugs when he gulped down the 8cm object.
This is only the third case in the medical literature of someone swallowing a lighter that then needed to be removed, and it's the first time that it has happened in the US, according to the case report. In the two previous instances, doctors needed to remove the lighters because they had caused blockages in the bowel, but the new case was more urgent, because the lighter was leaking fluid.
A video is doing the rounds which show a doctor dragging a lighter out of the man’s oesophagus with a clamp. Occasionally, it looks like it might get stuck and the medic has to take his time in pulling it out.
The footage was captured when doctors put a camera known as an endoscope down his throat to look into the man's stomach and digestive tract and locate the item.
It is unclear whether the lighter caused any damage to his stomach or oesophagus.
The news comes after MailOnline reported on the story of a Chinese student who swallowed a 14cm spoon whole in June this year.
