Nutella was supposed to race ahead of Neyyappam in the public poll for Android N

All those harboured hopes have come crashing down with just one tweet. Android has named its version 7.0, the N with Nougat. A tweet was posted by Android announcing the name along with a YouTube video link showing the Nougat statue unwrapping. Though the public poll was wound up by May, speculations started spilling out toward mid June about the possible disappointment hovering around Neyyappam.

Though Nutella was blamed to be the rival, breaking all assumptions, Nougat has finally won the race in first place. Rumours had claimed that Nutella would nail a deal with Android at any cost to get the popular smart phone operating system christened with the name of their product. However, in the video, Android cleverly showed that they have not ignored the efforts that went behind  the naming. In the list, N-snacks and Neyyappam are also acknowledged. Of course, there was a lot expected, with an Indian Sundar Pichai, as the Google CEO. He too ignited the hope of getting an Indian snack to be named as the next Android, while he was addressing a gathering in the year 2015.

Neyyappam had other Indian counterparts too, the topper being Naankhatai. Once the voting gathered momentum, the Kerala Tourism Department had promoted the idea of naming the Android next with Neyyappam, via Twitter. Apart from this, campaigns were in full swing down south to vote for Neyyappam. The chewy confection Nougat is made using a variety of ingredients such as sugar, honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites and occasionally candied fruit is added. The origin of this sweet is still ambiguous, but there are versions speaking of an Arabic origin.

The snacky side apart, the tech world can expect some better features in the productivity, performance and the security front when Nougat comes into action. Among the promises, is a split-screen multi-window mode that enables viewing two apps simultaneously on a screen in halves. The notification bar has smaller icons on display. It also has a better power-saving facility, which can provide an improved performance when compared with Marshmallow. There is much to cheer on data connectivity as well. It has a data saver mode, that will cut down  the data usage with a special design. The design helps in  bringing down the bandwidth usage. Also, Nougat, the Android 7.0, could be launched in the month of August or September.
