Knowing your limits!
Drinking occasionally can sometimes go out of hand for some people who might harm themselves unconsciously. Prevention is the key!
People say drinking and driving isn’t safe but there are many other things as well that you cannot do while you’re drinking your blues away! Many people end up hurting themselves doing silly things unconsciously while their drunk and the recent news are filled with cases as such. But, instead of hyping the same news over and over again we figure out what precautions can be taken before drinking in heavily. Speaking to some youngsters and experts who tell us what they do to avoid accidents while drinking and tips on what you can do to ensure your safety.
Utkarsh Roy, a software developer in KPMG who says he has never actually drunk alone but has been injured while drinking. He says, “The first thing is not to get too drunk while drinking alone since you know there’s no one around for help. And always have a phone within reach so that you could make an emergency call. Stay away from bathtubs or electrical appliances as there are high chances of you falling around and being disoriented. Stay away from anything that’s dangerous and needs to be handled with caution. I would always keep my phone in sight and let my friends know where I am exactly so that if any help is required it can reach me ASAP.”
Many people call in their friends to help them out while they get high. So, does Rahul Raj, a risk analyst who says, “The first thing I personally never prefer going back to my place by booking a cab, not a personal vehicle. And if I am too drunk to carry myself, I would call my friends to take me from my place. Also, a person should avoid getting into any sort of argument with strangers when drunk because it might lead to fighting. Also one should avoid drinking on the terrace without boundaries because it might lead to a major accident.”
Prevention is always better than cure as believed by many and Dr. Shoiba Saldana, a city-based gynaecologist testifies to that and shares some insights and tips, “It’s basically about prevention. Specifically for women, the possible results of drinking heavily are puking and falling semiconscious at the venue, losing inhibitions and behaving like in an odd way, driving home and causing an accident and getting molested or raped by another party fellow. One in five girls has been reported suffering date rape. The highest cause of teenage pregnancy in the US is drinking. The answer lies in prevention.”
