A grand WalkathOnam!
World Physiotherapy Day is observed on September 8 every year by the World Confederation of Physiotherapy.
On Sunday, Kochiites woke up to see a grand walkathon led by the mighty, pot-bellied Maveli! Waving at everyone on the way, talking to them, the mythical king taking a stroll on the road was an amusing sight, and behind him was a crowd, all dressed up in white, part of Walkathon 2019.
Jointly organised by the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP), Rotary Club of Cochin (East), Ernakulam Cricket Association and Ernakulam Football Association, the walkathon held as part of the observance of World Physiotherapy Day was attended by physiotherapists, their families, college students and people from various walks of life. World Physiotherapy Day is observed on September 8 every year by the World Confederation of Physiotherapy, a collective of physiotherapy association in 115 countries.
The walkathon that was flagged off at 9 am on Sunday from Durbar Hall Ground, Kochi, was led by 103-year-old Nenmanassery Parameswaran Moothath, the city’s most active senior citizen, who maintains a healthy lifestyle. As part of Onam celebrations, the event was also attended by a person dressed up as Maveli, the mythical king on whose memory the festival is celebrated.
Flagged off by P.T. Thomas MLA, the walkathon was attended by distinguished persons like former MP Prof Richard Hay, BCCI selection committee member and former captain of Kerala cricket team Jayaram and former director of NPOL and CGOA president Ananthanarayanan.
