Punny' matters of the heart
Meet Internet sensation, Azamuddin Mohammed, whose stories of heartbreak on Snapchat went viral.
Hyderabad-based Azamuddin Mohammed took the Internet by storm after his heartbroken Snapchat stories went viral. Not just in India, but even pages across the world took a special liking to his puns.
“It was for fun. I always try to upload something funny on Snapchat, but that’s only for my friends. I didn’t expect this kind of response. People loved the idea and creativity. My phone hung with all the messages I got. I guess they could connect with the posts,” says Azamuddin, who is pursuing Bachelors in Dental Surgery.
He adds, “People wondered what I was doing at such a young age, getting into a relationship and getting my heart broken.” It was one of Azamuddin’s friends, Noor, who took screenshots and uploaded the snaps to his Facebook profile, after which it was picked up by others, and even featured on 9gag. “On one of the pages, the posts reached 20 million users,” he says. He has also found a new stardom in his college and family.
Azamuddin admits that the series has been inspired by All These Memes. “The series was impromptu and created in a day. I would roam around, look at objects, think of a ‘punny’ post to go with the series and post it. The way I presented it was new,” he says.
The 20-year-old is now back with another Snapchat story. This time, he is trying to woo someone. “For the second series, I had to think really hard because people were expecting me to come up with more such memes and I had to live up to their expectations,” explains Azamuddin.
“I am always on some social media platform or the other. I even had my own meme pages since I was really interested. However, I did not continue after I joined BDS, since it’s tough and I had to devote time and attention to it. For now, the posts won’t stop, but I won’t give all my time to it.”
