Onyo Opala steals show on Day 4
The film sheds lights on a gay psyche who feels deep guilt about his sexual orientation but cannot help himself.
KOZHIKODE: Satarupa Sanyal’s Bengali film, Onyo Opala was the noted film on the day four of the women’s international film fest here on Thursday. The film focuses on a young woman who loses her husband and lives with a deep sense of being wronged through her married life. Her marriage remains unconsummated because her husband is obsessed with his guru. Her husband is very pretty, strongly effeminate, loves to cook and yet loves his wife deeply. But she cannot get pregnant because she is still a virgin as her husband does not want to consummate the marriage.
Yet, she delivers a boy out of rape. The film sheds lights on a gay psyche who feels deep guilt about his sexual orientation but cannot help himself. “The film, though successfully delves into the subtleties of human mind, loses focus due to too many themes,” sad Jayarajan, C, a KSRTC employee and avid movie buff. “Portrayal of intense emotions and the sincerity in dealing with the gay subject is excellent,” opined Vijutha. K.V, a college student. Rupa Ganguly has enacted the title role. The festival will conclude today.
