An adventurous man planned the wackiest of surprises for his bride by getting a monkey carry their rings at the wedding ceremony. Jamie Richardson, 30, spent around £2,000 to pull the unusual stunt for his wife Natalie Biggins, 27, who has always been fond of primates.

A video of their wedding, which took place at Jesmonde Dene House in Newcastle, shows a small Rhesus macaque running towards the stunned bride before handing over the ring box to the best man. Richardson had to secure permission from both the venue organisers and the council for hiring the monkey at the celebration.

He reveals that he had researched on the internet a bit and luckily found a Sheffield company that rented him a macaque called Rosie. Incidentally, Rosie had also starred in popular Ikea advertisement last year. “Loads of people had photos with the monkey and he even stole one of the Prosecco ice pops. It was absolutely brilliant,” Richardson told the Daily Mail. His wife, Natalie, quipped, “It certainly added an extra something to the day, and I think my face in the video says it all.”
