International Museum Day: Museum on wheels for tourists visiting the Heritage City.

Mysuru: With Mysuru having as many as eight major museums, the district administration is celebrating International Museum Day on Thursday in style by promoting the concept of ‘Museum on wheels’ for tourists visiting the Heritage City.

The district administration, tourism department and department of archaeology, museums and heritage  are arranging a bus from Wellington government museum on Irwin Road at 9 am on Thursday. Tourists in the age group of 18 -35 years can visit the heritage bungalow of noted Indian English writer R.K. Narayan besides the wax museum, sand museum, folklore museum, archaeology department  gallery at Dasara exhibition ground, the Central government’s rail museum and Natural museum for regional history. Forty tourists have already registered for the trip and 50 per cent of them are Mysureans, according to tourism deputy director, Janardhan.

The district administration has plans to boost tourism round the year. Henceforth, tourists can enjoy the musical fountain for an hour at Kuppanna park in the heart of the city on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from this week end. A 21 minute musical package with 18 songs besides different formations of water fountains will be on offer for an hour from 6.30 pm.

On Wednesday, Mysuru DC, D Randeep held a meeting with tourism and other department officials and is planning an open street festival for a day, in June, between Hardinge Circle and KR Circle by making it vehicle free. Activities like Puppet show, cycling, skating, painting, music, theatre, caricature and many more will be featured on the day.

It was decided at a recent Palace board meeting to hold Yugadi Sangeethotsava in April and celebrate International Yoga Day in a big way in June. The board has decided to come up with detailed project report for 3D projection at Mysuru Palace besides a sound and light programme at Mysuru Palace in Hindi and English in the next two months.
